Middleburgh Rotary Announces Kickoff to Drive-In Movies
The Middleburgh Rotary Club is pleased to announce – in conjunction with the Middleburgh Library – the launch of our free drive-in movie theater series this late Summer/early Fall at Timothy Murphy Park will begin on Saturday, August 22nd with a showing of the Disney classic the Lion King.
Spurred by a desire to continue serving our community during these difficult times, the Middleburgh Rotary Club began discussing socially distant, pandemic safe family activities over the Spring months and began investigating the possibility of hosting a drive-in movie theatre.
Middleburgh Rotary President Jason Dannible explained “This socially responsible project is truly the result of the collaboration of the Middleburgh community. Generous contributions from MEVAC, the Booster Club, Rotarians, and an anonymous local business led to the purchase of the necessary technology.”
“The talents of several Rotarians and their family members were used to set up and connect the equipment” said President Dannible before he added that “We are thankful to all who helped realize this project and look forward to seeing you at the drive-in.”
Films will be broadcast by projector on an inflatable screen, with audio being transmitted via FM Transmitter that attendees will be able to tune into in their vehicles. Attendees are encouraged to either watch the film within their vehicle or to use the bed of their pick-up truck. No lawn seating is permitted.
Understanding that the COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose a significant threat to our community and its members, we encourage drive-in movie attendees to abide by the following recommendations:
Attendees are encouraged to begin arriving at 8:00 PM, where they will be directed to their parking spot by a volunteer Rotarian on duty. Admittance is free and films are set to begin at 8:30 PM. The kickoff to Rotary’s drive-in movie theatre series will be the Lion King on Saturday, August 22nd.
Additional films to be determined will be showed on Saturday, August 29th and throughout the late Summer/early Fall months. This project would not be possible without the generous assistance of the Middleburgh Library, which is open for curbside service at 323 Main Street in the Village of Middleburgh.
